Handicap Racing

The Port Ludlow Yacht Club encourages club members and others to participate in handicap racing on local waters. Recognizing that the boats in the fleet vary widely in performance, the club uses Pacific Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) ratings to “level the playing field.” The intent is to provide spirited competition and an opportunity for everyone to be competitive. Races are typically held on Saturdays and are 8 to 15 miles in length.

To participate boat owners must complete a registration form, provide proof of insurance, and commit to the principles of Corinthian racing. Boats entering our races must be at least 18 feet LOA, self righting, and equipped with proper safety equipment. Non-members may participate in PLYC races by paying a seasonal or individual race fee. 

The 2012 race season schedule is shown below. Race results are published on the club Web site and may be seen by clicking on the event name. Times shown in the schedule are for the skippers' meetings preceding the races. They are held in the kiosk adjacent to the marina store and all race participants are invited to join in. This is also a good opportunity for persons seeking a crewing position to contact skippers who may need crew.
