Port Ludlow Yacht Club Women's Group

The Port Ludlow Yacht Club Women's Group, founded in January 2006, is open to all women in the Yacht Club. The group's purpose is "to foster the enjoyment of yachting and to promote social and recreational activities for the women of the Port Ludlow Yacht Club."

The Women's Group holds four functions a year, each planned by a volunteer committee. For the past several years, the group has held a special holiday lunch at the Wing Point Country Club on Bainbridge Island where we review the year's events and announce new officers.

When you belong to the Port Ludlow Yacht Club, you realize that our members are a caring group with a passion for boating. We are mindful not only of the well-being of fellow boaters, but of our greater community. The Women's Group embodies this spirit by each year giving back to the community.

In 2007, Women’s Group members wrote a cookbook, A Culinary Cruise with the Port Ludlow Yacht Club. Profits from sales continue to help support the Jefferson County Breast and Cervical Health Program. This program provides free or low-cost health exams and mammograms to needy women; cookbook sales continue to provide funds for this program.

In 2008, we held a luncheon fundraiser that provided greatly needed women's undergarments to Working Image in Port Townsend. Working Image provides professional clothes to women interviewing for jobs or promotions.

For 2009, the PLYC Women's Group has now completed renovating eight small cabins in Port Townsend used for emergency housing by women and children escaping domestic violence, and families in crisis. We are extremely proud of the work we've done to help Olycap provide lovely, clean and safe housing.

In addition to social and fundraising events, several PLYC women have taught Basic Boating Skills for Women since 2007. These classes cover a wide range of boating issues, and are highly popular and well attended.

Officers for 2010: Diane Purdy, Leadership Coordinator, Kay Cathcart, Event Coordinator, and Diane Neesz, Financial Coordinator.

Women's Group Heads to Seattle on March 24:

Join the PLYC Women's Group for a delightful day in Seattle on Wednesday, March 24. We will carpool to Seattle via the Bainbridge ferry for a guided tour of the new Wing Luke Asian Museum. After the tour, we'll have dim sum at the Four Seas Restaurant. Our final stop before heading home will be a visit to the famous Asian grocery and department store, Uwajimaya.

The cost is $25 per person, which includes the museum fee and lunch. Please mail your check payable to PLYC to Kay Cathcart, 46 Village Way, PMB 119, Port Ludlow 98365 by Friday, March 12. Enclose a note telling Kay that you will drive and how many passengers you can accommodate, or let her know that you will be a passenger only. Each passenger will give the driver $10 to cover ferry and passenger ticket fees and any parking costs. You will receive an email with details about times, the departure points, and carpool assignments.
